In this article, we will show you how to create a discount where adding Category A items to the cart automatically applies a discount to Category B items.

This setup requires two automated discounts to work together.

Step 1: Create a Discount to Detect Category A in the Cart

This discount ensures that when products from Category A are added to the cart, it triggers a discount for Category B.

  1. Go to Automated Discounts and create a new discount.
  2. Discount Type: Applies to item category
  3. Select Category: Choose Category A (the category that should trigger the discount).
  4. Amount Type: Amount (per item)
  5. Amount: 0
  6. Automation Type: Quantity-based
  7. Condition Check Mode: Aggregated
  8. Target: All items


Step 2: Create a Discount to Apply to Category B

Now, we create the actual discount that applies to Category B when items from Category A are present in the cart.

  1. Go to Automated Discounts and create a new discount.
  2. Discount Type: Applies to item category
  3. Select Category: Choose Category B (the category that should be discounted).
  4. Amount Type: Custom
  5. Condition Check Mode: Aggregated
  6. Automation Type: Quantity-based
  7. Maximum Quantity: Leave blank
  8. Target: All items
  9. Category Discount Amount/Percentage: Define the discount (percentage or amount).
  10. Base Discount: Add the discount code from the first discount created in Step 1.


Final Result

  • When Category A items are added to the cart, all items from Category B receive a discount.

  • If no Category A items are in the cart, Category B items remain at full price.

  • If only Category A items are added, no discount is applied to them.

By following these steps, you can successfully set up an automated discount that links the two categories dynamically.
