Franpos Power BI Reporting

Getting Started with Franpos Power BI Reporting

Franpos Power BI Reporting allows you to view your Franpos data in Microsoft Power BI using prebuilt dashboards and reports. This guide walks you through installing Power BI, connecting it to Franpos, and using the reports effectively.

Step 1: Download and Install Power BI Desktop

  1. Open your browser and go to the official Microsoft Power BI website.
  2. Click Products → Power BI Desktop → Download free.
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • Microsoft Store (recommended – automatic updates)
    • Direct Download (EXE) for manual installation
  4. Sign in with your Microsoft account if prompted.
  5. Run the installer and complete the installation.
  6. Launch Power BI Desktop once installation is complete.

Step 2: Download the Franpos Power BI Template

  1. Download the Franpos Power BI template file (.pbit) from the provided source.
  2. Open the template file in Power BI Desktop.

The template already contains the prebuilt data model and dashboards, so no report setup is required.

Step 3: Generate an API Key in Franpos

Before connecting Power BI, make sure the following is completed in Franpos:

  1. Go to Franpos → Developer Settings.
  2. Generate an API Key.
  3. Ensure the API key has access to the company IDs (stores) you want to see in Power BI.

Step 4: Enter Connection Details in Power BI

When prompted in Power BI, enter the following:

Date Range Setup

  • Range Start: MM/DD/YYYY 12:00:00 AM
Recommendation: Set this to 90 days prior to today
  • Range End: MM/DD/YYYY 12:00:00 AM
    Set this to today’s date

Step 5: Authentication & Privacy Settings

When Power BI asks for authentication:

  • Select Anonymous as the authentication method
  • If prompted for Privacy Levels:
    • Check Ignore the privacy level settings

This is required because authentication is handled securely through the Franpos API key.

If You See Errors in Visualizations

In some cases (usually due to Power BI version differences), visuals may show errors. To fix this:

  1. Go to File → Options and Settings → Options
  2. Select Current File → Privacy
  3. Choose Ignore the Privacy Levels
  4. Click OK
  5. Click Refresh

Step 6: Load and Refresh Data

  • Power BI will automatically load data for all company IDs accessible by your API key
  • Dashboards and visuals will populate automatically
  • Use Refresh anytime to pull the latest data
