PAX terminals connected over LAN may receive a new IP address from the network. When this happens, the POS must reconnect automatically to avoid payment interruptions. Franpos provides three Auto-Recovery modes to keep the pin pad online with minimal effort.
Primary and recommended option.
In this mode, Franpos uses the terminal’s Serial Number to request the latest IP address from PAX Cloud servers. If the device IP changes, the POS updates it automatically.
How it works:
Fallback behavior:
If PAX Cloud is down or unreachable (which has historically happened), switch to Network Scan by going to

Local network fallback method.
When selected—or when PAX Cloud fails—Franpos scans the local network (LAN) to locate the PAX terminal.
How it works:
Benefits: Works even if PAX Cloud is down.
No automatic recovery.
In this mode, auto-recovery is disabled. If the terminal’s IP changes, the customer must manually enter the new IP address in the payment terminal settings.
How it works:
| Mode | Auto | Behavior on IP Change | Cloud Dependence | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serial Number | Yes | Cloud lookup → If fails → Local network scan | Medium | Most stores; highest reliability |
| Network Scan | Yes | Scans LAN for PAX devices | None | Stores with unstable internet |
