Automated Discounts – Promote Subscription Discounts on eCommerce
Franpos allows you to create Automated Discounts that are specifically promoted
on eCommerce when a customer subscribes to a product.
For example:
"Subscribe and get 10% off this item."
This is a great way to encourage recurring purchases and increase subscription adoption.
How It Works
The discount setup process is the same as creating any other automated discount.
All standard discount logic is available, including:
- Buy 3 Get 1
- Minimum subtotal requirements
- Percentage or fixed amount discounts
We recommend keeping subscription discounts simple
(for example, 10% off) to avoid confusing customers.
How to Create a Subscription Discount
- Go to Discount Setup.
- Click the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner.
- Select Add Automated Discount.
Configure the discount as usual:
- Discount Code
- Discount Name
- Start and End Dates
- Conditions (if needed)
Example:
- Discount Type: Percentage
- Value: 10% Off
To make the promotion work for subscriptions,
set the Automation Type to:
Product Subscription
This ensures the discount:
- Is promoted on the eCommerce product page
- Is automatically applied when a customer subscribes
- Only applies to subscription purchases
How It Appears on eCommerce
Once configured, the discount will be displayed on the product page
when subscription is available.
It will also:
- Appear on customer receipts
- Be included in reporting like any regular discount
- Be tracked in discount analytics
Best Practice Recommendation
For subscription promotions, we recommend:
- Simple percentage discounts (5–15%)
- Clear naming (e.g., “Subscribe & Save 10%”)
- Limited stacking with other complex promotions
Keeping subscription discounts straightforward improves
customer understanding and conversion rates.
Alternative Setups
1) First Order Subscription Discount Only
Example: Get 35% off your first subscription order only.
- Discount Type: Percentage
- Value: 35% Off
- Automation Type: Product Subscription
To ensure the discount applies only to the first order:
- Disable the toggle: "Available on Subscription Renewal"
This ensures the discount is applied only when the customer initially subscribes,
not on recurring subscription renewals.
2) Combined Setup – First Order + Ongoing Discount
You can combine both strategies:
- 35% off on the first subscription order
- 10% off on all recurring subscription renewals
To achieve this:
- Create two separate automated discounts.
- Ensure the first-order discount has renewal disabled.
- Keep the recurring discount enabled for renewals.
- Reorder them in the Subscription Discount Order settings so the first-order discount is evaluated first.
Customer Experience Example:
On eCommerce:
First order: 35% “Subscribe” discount applied
Recurring orders: 10% renewal discount applied
